Designed by William Morris in 1884, Cray is one of Morris's most complex patterns. It was also one of the most expensive to produce, requiring 34 separate printing blocks. Cray belongs to a series of River chintzes Morris created in the early 1880s inspired by a boating expedition along the Thames in the summer of 1880.
